Child Services
Committed to expanding services across the life spectrum, in June 2008 InterCommunity was licensed by the Connecticut State Department of Children and Families to begin an Outpatient Psychiatric Children’s Clinic, serving low income children ages 3-18 and their families, at the 287 Main Street Location. The Children’s Clinic opened its doors in August 2008.
 |
The Outpatient Psychiatric Children’s Clinic provides an extensive array of services, including diagnostic evaluations, individual, group therapy, family therapy and medication management services. The program also provides consultation to schools and other agencies involved with the child and family, as well as trainings and workshops for schools and other agencies upon request. The clinic celebrates the cultural diversity of all children and has three bilingual Clinicians available. |
Therapy
 |
The clinic utilizes a collaborative, strengths-based approach in providing behavioral, cognitive and psychiatric interventions to create positive growth and change for children, adolescents and their families. Services are designed to promote mental health, improve functioning and effectively decrease the prevalence and incidence of mental illness, emotional disturbance and social dysfunction. All Children's Clinic staff members are trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Medication
InterCommunity’s Children’s Clinic philosophy indicates that medication for children is considered a last stop, and is combined with heavy involvement in therapy. However, InterCommunity has the capability to do routine medication assessment, evaluations and management. InterCommunity is also contracted with select schools to conduct school psychiatric evaluations.
